Dr. Saccoh profoundly believes that every Sierra Leonean in his station of duty has the right to protection and therefore leaves no stone unturned to ensure that the interest of every Sierra Leonean is protected in Guinea. In fact, during the period of the late President J.S. Momoh's illness in Guinea, Dr. Saccoh's unrelenting efforts to ensure that the former President received medical attention and care was met with disapproval by some members of society. However he proved by example that the human spirit has a profound capacity for goodwill, magnanimity and tolerance. He believes that these virtues dispel bigotry, that they are essential ingredients for reconciliation and national cohesion and, thus, essential building blocks for a whole new national character in post-conflict Sierra Leone.
Dr. Saccoh's role in Guinea in helping to secure a lasting peace in the region is inestimable. He brought his immense leadership skills into sharp focus. He combines an indomitable personal will with astute political intelligence, and applies each of these qualities to exceptional and constantly fluctuating situations.
As a politician, Dr. Saccoh often describes his main political investment as one of tolerance. Through tolerance he has acquired the key principled political virtues of humility, magnanimity, accountability and responsibility. Having been the victim of political exclusion during his early days in politics, he believes firmly in the right of every Sierra Leonean irrespective of tribe, creed or political association to participate in politics and nation building. He believes just as firmly in Sierra Leone's potential to become a great African nation. But, he believes, only with heavy investment in the social capital of his country with every stratum of Sierra Leonean society on board, will Sierra Leone achieve realisation of this positive destiny. Dr. Saccoh's aspirations during his life-long career have been fuelled by a compulsion to make a difference; to keep the flame of those great African leaders who fought the terror of ignorance, poverty and indifference against insurmountable odds and prevailing tyrannies burning brightly.
Dr. Saccoh is an avid reader, loves music and dancing, and finds great pleasure in taking time off to listen to the opinions of people on all issues relating to his beloved Sierra Leone. He speaks English and Russian fluently, as well as the national languages of Madingo, Loko, Temne, Mende and Fullah.
Alhaji Dr. Sheku Bah Saccoh is married to Haja Fatim Saccoh, with eight children.
